Excerpts:

Munmun Ganeriwal, a Nutrition Consultant and Founder of Yuktahaar

Q.
What inspired you to make your mark in the field of entrepreneurship?

I was born in a Marwari business
family. So I believe taking to entrepreneurship is very much part of my genetic
make-up, pretty much in my DNA so as to say.

Secondly, there’s an element in me
that wants to do more: in terms of creativity, reaching out to the audience and
approaching nutrition, fitness and wellness like never before. Entrepreneurship
gives one the opportunity to nurture this side of their personality; which
otherwise gets restricted in a job.

Having already worked for more than 13 years at state-of-the-art fitness clubs, a world renowned medical Institute etc. I felt it was a natural progression that I take the unbeaten path of paving my own way by setting up a unique practice of my own, and I named it “Yuktahaar”.
Q.
When did you start your venture? Please tell us more about your venture.

I believe in continuous learning and
hence even after acquiring Master’s in Nutrition Science and International
certification of Fitness by ACSM, I have been regularly investing in educating
and updating my knowledge.

‘Yuktahaar’ (‘Yukt’ – right amount,
quality and mindfulness & ‘Ahaar’ – food) was launched in June 2016 and is
a blend of my knowledge of modern nutritional science with the wisdom of Yoga
and Ayurveda. The word finds its origin in the holy book “Srimad Bhagvad Gita” The
Gita speaks of ‘Yuktahaar’ when Lord Krishna tells Arjun that for a meaningful
Yoga practice, balance in food and sleep is crucial. ‘Yuktahaar’ talks about
this age old wisdom of eating right in balance and and reveals how the cutting
edge technology and ground breaking research of the West is catching up with
this timeless wisdom. It is essentially a diet, exercise and lifestyle
intervention program that promotes a holistic approach towards sensible and
sustainable weight loss and improved health.

Our Consultation Programme is designed
in a manner that anyone residing in any part of the world could sign up with
us. Apart from this, we also do seminars, workshops and wellness holidays/
retreats to cater to a larger audience and exchange our knowledge and encourage
people to achieve their fitness goals.

Q.
What business opportunities do you see particularly in your sector Nutrition and
Exercise Consultancy?

Back in 2002 when I started my career,
Nutrition and/ or Fitness was not popular as a mainstream course or industry
compared to the present time. Today, the global wellness industry is a whopping
$3.7 trillion market with nutrition, fitness and weight loss being key sectors.
The opportunities are huge and endless, one only needs to approach it with
passion, endurance and sustainability.

Q.
How has been your entrepreneurship journey so far?

My journey so far has been both
challenging and fun. Life does not unfold the way we wish or expect, and that’s
part of the challenge and ultimately the fun of it.

Q.
As an entrepreneur, what challenges do you face in your day to day professional
life, if any?

Confucius said “The Superior Man
understands what is right, the Inferior Man understands what will sell” Fear
for food sells and the weight loss, medical and pharmaceutical industries know
that well. It’s easy to sell people that they are not good enough, that there’s
something wrong with them and that there’s this single product/ pill/ procedure
that is going to make them look perfect and feel on top of the world.

My biggest challenge has been to make
my clients lose weight by replacing this fear with gratitude for food; from body
shaming to developing an unconditional love towards self, from leaning on any “procedure”
or “pill” to giving lifestyle a fair chance.

I am happy to say that once I start
educating them on the basics of eating right and exercising, they are able to
differentiate right from wrong. I believe that honesty, transparency and
authenticity are the main pillars that helps me march ahead on this journey.
Sooner or later my clients do understand that weight loss should be both
sensible and sustainable.

Q.
What are your future plans?

We want to establish ourselves as a
brand that stands for delivering unadulterated, authentic (not industry-funded)
information on food, fitness, health and everything related to them. We want to
be become people’s first choice when they wish to turn their life around by
embracing a healthier lifestyle. And we are certain that when we do this
sustainably, we would be recognized on a global level. Through our consultancy
programs and various events, we aim to promote the culture of local food,
global spirit and do our bit to support local economy and global ecology.
We are also contemplating on taking
our business to an app model where by people can input live feed and get
customized consultation on the go. We are in the process of calculating its
risks/ rewards and will be taking a final call on it shortly.
