Established in the year
2012, Theweightmonitor (“TWM”)
is India’s first, fully online weight management portal which was launched to
provide services of a Personal Nutritionist and highly tailored weight loss
solutions. TWM was founded by Ms. Ishi Khosla, one of India’s top clinical
Personal Nutritionists; and is led by Karan Vir Khosla. TWM serves clients in
over 175 cities, worldwide.

Theweightmonitor offers
mobile app and comprehensive web based weight loss program which provides a
customer access to dedicated Personal Nutritionist along with daily performance
scoring to help lose weight, stay fit and live a healthier lifestyle. During
the entire duration of the program, the customer engages with their Personal
Nutritionist on a daily basis via effective mechanisms, including Phone calls,
Skype Meetings, In-App Chats, Daily Food Diary & Score Reviews by the
Personal Nutritionist, Weekly Weigh-ins (Weight check-ins), and Medical Report
Analysis, among others.

Theweightmonitor app
simplifies the process of sustainable weight management and breaks it down to a
scoring mechanism easily understood by the general audience. It moves away from
the traditionally accepted ‘one size fits all’ calorie counter.

In an email interaction with Startup Terminal; Karan Vir Khosla, Co-Founder and CEO,
Theweightmonitor (TWM)
shares more insight about the services of
Theweightmonitor and future goals.

Excerpts:

Karan Vir Khosla_Co-Founder and CEO, TWM
ST:
What inspired you to make your mark in the field of entrepreneurship?

Karan
Vir Khosla:

I am a lawyer by education and worked as a Corporate Lawyer for a couple of
years before turning to entrepreneurship.

Coming from a family of
fitness junkies and nutritionists (my mother, Ishi Khosla; and wife are
nutritionists), I have always been inclined towards leading a healthy lifestyle.
I strongly believe that a healthy diet is half the battle won towards staying
healthy.

Diets in India have gone terribly
wrong in the last few years and Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), such as
obesity and diabetes have grown exponentially. Despite increased awareness
about health and fitness, the problem only seems to be getting worse.
Despite the internet, the
lack of professional advice is severely restricted, especially in Tier 2/ 3
cities.

What has inspired me a lot
is thus the idea of creating a knowledge sharing platform for people to teach
them the art of eating right rather than providing a temporary rigorous diet
regime. The digital concept of learning and getting services of Personal
Nutritionist in a timely and cost-effective manner would help a customer not
only to lose weight & stay fit but also learn something that can be
followed for life—which is the need of the hour.

ST:
When did you start your venture? Please tell us more about your venture.

Karan
Vir Khosla:

Theweightmonitor (TWM) was founded in the year 2012. TWM is India’s first,
fully online weight management portal.
Since time is limited, it can get extremely tough to visit a
nutritionist’s clinic for regular follow ups. The idea is to offer the services
of a Personal Nutritionist, which are available to clients, anytime and
anywhere.

We have also built an
unique food diary, which gives you a score every time you fill in your daily
intake. Not only is the customer able to see his food intake, and macro
nutrient values, they get a performance based score, which gives them an
indicator on their food intake and also allows customers to motivate
themselves.

TWM moves away from the
traditionally accepted ‘one size fits all’ calorie counter.

ST:
What business opportunities do you see particularly in your sector- Healthcare/Nutrition?

Karan
Vir Khosla:

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) 2015 Global Survey on
Non-Communicable Diseases, 60% of deaths in India are attributed to NCDs
including Diabetes, Heart & Lung Diseases, Cancer and Stroke. The survey
co-related unhealthy diets and NCDs.

The global weight loss and
weight-management market is expected to reach $206.4 billion by 2019. According
to a Ficci report, the wellness market in India is estimated to be worth Rs
95,000 crore and weight-loss/slimming services alone are estimated to be
between Rs 60,000 crore and Rs 70,000 crore. It indicates that there is a huge
potential of business growth as we are extremely committed to elevate the
entire nutritionist experience and put it online in order to deliver our
customers highly tailored and personalized solutions to all their
weight-related health problems.

ST:
How has been your entrepreneurship journey so far?

Karan
Vir Khosla:

It has not been too long since I decided to take the entrepreneurial plunge and
my journey so far has been has been a rollercoaster ride. Throughout my
journey, I have learnt how to optimally contribute to the evolution of the
business and integrate innovation, knowledge and expertise to achieve the
desired business goals.

ST:
As an entrepreneur, what challenges do you face in your day to day professional
life, if any?

Karan
Vir Khosla:

Challenges are a part of every business and we must face them with
determination and effective solutions. Apart from motivating people to ‘getting
fit and staying fit’, scaling business, and developing effective talent pool
are the key challenges. However, I have been fortunate enough to create a
talented and professional team, which enables faster decision making process
and drives exponential business growth at the same time.

ST:
What are your future plans?
Karan
Vir Khosla:

We are presently servicing clients in over 175 cities, worldwide and we are
excited about our future prospects as we look forward to growing our customer
base.
