Keeping employees ‘happy’ is what most
companies struggle with today. No one wants to feel like their work doesn’t
matter. Hence, it’s important to create a purpose for your organization
explaining why you exist and what value you are creating in this world.
Everyone talks about company culture. This is important. Every company out
there is trying to identify and create its own. Culture, for us, is not what
goes on the website ‘ABOUT US’ tab, it’s more than mere words. Culture speaks
for itself from the moment we step into our office, the good mornings, how we
speak to each other and shapes our work enjoyment, our work relationships,
and our work processes.

It’s also important to keep a positive environment in the
workplace. Hiring the right kind of people is of utmost importance. They need
not necessarily have the skills because skill is something that can be taught.
A curious mind along with a happy outlook in life is something that cannot be
taught and this is what we look for during recruitment and helps to keep the
workplace buzzing with a sense of team spirit and belonging.
Cubicles block communication and inclusion,
we opted for an open seating where communication is free and
transparent. There is no fear of hierarchy, everyone can walk up to anyone
and ask for help. We constantly have one on one and group chats. This helps
employees loosen up and convey what their professional goals are. Individual
interests are kept in mind too, if someone who is handling daily operations has
a knack for design and wants to take on a creative project we let them do so as
long as their daily task is not being compromised.  We try to create
a dynamic environment where change is welcomed and the team hustle game is
strong. There are no absurd restrictions like dress code and strict timings
either.

At Bigsmall, our product could be small in
size but the impact on our customers is much bigger than expected. We want to
achieve the same feeling amongst our team members with the smallest of things.

Appreciating someone’s work instantly,
giving them meaningful perks goes a long way. Other than monetary, perks come
in the form of foosball matches at work, blueberry cheesecakes, sharing each
other’s food over lunch, green tea tasting, having team outings at pizza
fests…well, you see food plays a major role in bringing us together.

It’s important to give employees space too,
allow them to take ownership instead of being another Adolf Hitler that nobody
really wants. We trust our team to do the right thing and take the right call.
This creates a sense of responsibility to get the job done.
