According to you what is the biggest environmental threat in the world at
present?
Singh: Climate change is the biggest threat to the
environment which has led to extreme living conditions amongst mankind due to
the increase in the occurrence of natural calamities, imbalance in nature, loss
to biodiversity, increasing global temperatures above pre-industrial levels and
an increase in carbon emissions.
What do you think a common person can do to help the environment?
Singh: To help the environment small steps in the right
direction can go a long way like adopting sustainable lifestyle, applying the
principles of Reuse, Recycle and Reduce in daily lives. Using products which
are energy- efficient, low carbon emission, star labelled equipment for houses
and offices.
What message do you have for the present and future generations?
Singh: The present generations can do their bit by
minimizing and optimizing the use of non-renewable energy sources and adopting
techniques to harness the renewable energy for harvesting energy demands. This
same knowledge can be passed to the future generations and they can develop
innovations around it.
What is the significance of ‘World Environment Day’ at the present time?
Singh: At present when the environment is degrading
by the day, The World Environment Day holds the potential for spreading
awareness around the world through global experts getting together and
launching new environmental programs and policies for a green economy.
