Vishesh Goyal, CEO, MeetCareer.com |
When did you decide to become an ‘entrepreneur’?
Goyal: When
I was pursuing my academic career in CA, a lot of questions used to race
through my mind related to my career. I would often wonder what next? At that point
of time, I understood the serious need of student-focused approach in the
education sector and decided to encourage and support the student community in
their academic as well as career life-cycle. I felt a deep desire to make
things easy for students when it comes to their career. That’s the time I decided
to become an entrepreneur with an aim to make a difference to the lives of
millions of students.
Please tell us about your venture ‘MeetCareer.com’.
Goyal: MeetCareer.com
is India’s first edu-job portal established
with an aim to enable high school students to manage their academic and career
life cycle. As a process, MeetCareer.com helps students to identify their
gifted talent as well as their interest areas (through various online mediums
as well as preliminary exams). To further assist the students, MeetCareer.com
also intends to provide and facilitate free career counseling and the tutors to support the specific needs of
students.
registration of the academic institutions on its portal MeetCareer.com plans to
provide the requisite information related to career to the students and would
also provide financial assistance in terms of scholarships to the needy ones. On
the other hand, MeetCareer.com would also engage the potential industry; placement
agencies and others to provide career options to the students after the
completion of their academics.
What opportunities do you see in the Indian education sector? Do you see any
challenges faced by the education industry?
Goyal: Indian
education sector is brimming with opportunities as the country has millions of
schools and students. India has one of the largest higher education systems in
the world. A lot of developments have happened but still there is a lot of
potential for further development in the education system. I am sure Indian
education system will witness huge growth in the coming years.
faced by the education industry in India, I feel that there is a lack of
infrastructure, a poor global ranking of institutes, the system of education,
gender issues, expenditure on education, costly higher education, student-teacher
ratio, career guidance, quality standards etc.
How can technology bring in a change in
the education space, particularly in India?
Goyal: Technology
has been playing and will continue to play a major role in bringing a change in
the education space. In future, learning and teaching are going to be social and it will be more about access, locally
and globally. School classrooms will change, the methods of teaching will
change and technology will be integrated into every aspect of schools and
colleges with the advancement of technology.
What are your expansion plans?
Goyal: Well,
expansion is an on-going process. Once you are done with a particular project
you move on to another. In fact, I strongly believe in focusing on the present
doing my best and at the same time looking into the future and identifying the
potential areas of growth.
