ST: According to you what is the
biggest environmental threat in the world at present?
Rajnish: In this 21st Century, I believe that there are various
environmental threats to the world, increasing pollution, population,
urbanization, intensive agriculture etc. Seeing the current scenario, I believe
the biggest environmental threat to the mankind is contamination of air and
extreme weather conditions. AIR
pollution can lead to a lot of respiratory disease to all the living beings and
cause contamination to every existing thing in the world which can make things
worse. Today, apart from polluted air we also face extreme and unpredictable
weather conditions, summers are getting hotter and winter are getting colder
and the monsoons are arriving according to their own wish. These natural
disturbances are caused due to damages which we humans are causing to the
environment knowingly or unknowingly. These are the two major natural concerns
which I believe are prevailing in the society today.
think a common person can do to help the environment?
Rajnish: According to me, a common person has the power to do a lot to
save the environment. If a person is willing to live in a healthy environment,
some minor steps can help them attain the same. People can limit the use of
resources available to them by the environment, do carpooling, save electricity,
grow trees, avoid polluting water, aware more people and many more small
initiatives which can lead to a big change.
community and if a community takes up the responsibility of building a healthy
environment there will be nothing known as environmental threats existing in
this world.
present and future generations?
Rajnish: My message for the present generation will be that our
ancestors left us with a very pleasant and healthy environment to live in and
now it’s our responsibility to provide the same to our future generations. Our
small steps and initiatives can lead to a great change and a very healthy
environment for future generations. As
far as I can see our future generations is going to be a tech savvy but they
should all realize the value of nature and also importance of preserving it.
The legacy of living in a healthy environment should be carried out by all the
generations as per my belief.
‘World Environment Day’ at the present time?
Rajnish: World Environment Day which is celebrated on 5th June, 2020 is
a great initiative taken by UNESCO to spread awareness in the world about
preserving our environment. They interact with people and help them to learn
about ways and initiatives which can be taken to protect our environment. This
day is celebrated worldwide with great enthusiasm but I believe that not only
once a year but we should do our bit every single day in favour of the
environment, this is how we can make every day as the World Environment Day and
live healthily ever after. An invisible
enemy named as COVID – 19 is prevailing in the society right now which has
brought life of humans to a standstill but simultaneously I believe that this
lockdown has given environment a chance to rebuild itself. We all will fight
this tough situation and emerge as winners going back in the laps of beautiful
nature around us.
