Sarah: I, Sarah Sheikh Gonsalves, an alumnus
of London College of Fashion and Wigan & Leigh is passionate about
everything unique and design. My idea is to reinvent the market which is
governed by functionality. I believe art should be wearable and not limited to
display.

Who is a woman that inspires you the most and why?

Sarah: J.K Rowling is someone who has
inspired me since my early years because she was able to single handedly make
reading cool again.

How are you celebrating this year’s International Women’s Day?

Sarah:
I don’t believe that
there is only one single day where we can appreciate what women do. With the
growing movement, we can see how women are creating a ground for themselves and
it’s a revolution indeed. We are the ones that hold a home and create an empire
at the same time and that’s something remarkable. Like every year, I believe in
working towards my goal and that’s how I would be celebrating my women’s day.

What is the most important message you want to send out to all the women around
the world on this occasion?

Sarah: No one has the power to make you feel
inferior only we know what power we possess. All I would say is, follow your
footsteps rather than following the path shown by others and the best way to
change the society and underlying issues is to channelize the power of woman in
every walk of life. Believe in your dreams and no one can stop you then.

What according to you is women empowerment’?

Sarah: According to me, it’s the creation of
an environment where women can make independent decisions on their personal
development as well as shine as equals in society. While getting exposure, a
women also explores and trusts her own thoughts, emotions, desires and
experiences. She sets her goal and marches her way towards it.

What would you say are the main challenges facing women at present in India?

Sarah: Lack of financial dependence in
non-urban areas. Representation of female role models. Another challenge is the
wage gap which women face in various industries. With reference to the
entertainment industry, we can see the gap is being fought by various strong
women and gradually we can see the change.

Where do you want to see yourself in next 5 years?

Sarah: Me as an individual is growing each
day. Being a designer, I want to experiment different avenues where SS HOMME
can expand. It has just begun to expand and there is a lot more to create and
showcase. There are tons of plans that I have for my brand. I want to be known
as the best bespoke designer but, it’s about being SS HOMME the fashion
resource that people can rely on for best bespoke experience.
