At StartUp Terminal, we believe our diversity is our strength. As International Woman’s Day grows near, we celebrate the achievements of women around the world.
To kick off our celebration, we’ve asked Dr. Aditi Sinha Nigam, an Ophthalmic Surgeon, and Founder & CEO of Flawless Coat boutique (K-Beauty E-commerce Website), a few questions on her experience achieving success in the beauty and healthcare industry, and what advice she has for women entering the workforce today.
Excerpts:
ST: Please tell us briefly about you.
Aditi: Bought up in Mumbai, I have always been a true Mumbaikar. Even though I had always wanted to be a doctor, but the passion around skin care never eluded me. I clearly remember how I would put a face mask on and watch endless YouTube videos of beauty experts. So, after I finished my formal education and became a surgeon. During my pregnancy when i was told to be on complete bed rest, my passion for skin care led to the birth of flawless coat boutique.
ST: Who is a woman that inspires you the most and why?
Aditi: In a world today, women are everywhere. and I feel proud to be associated to this gender of the world. There are so many, but Oprah Winfrey comes to my mind if you want me to choose one. I am a voracious reader and from time to time I keep reading her work. Her life had been so hard, and yet, she came out as one of the changers in the society. She didn’t complain, but rather challenged herself and proved that you can achieve whatever you set your eye on.
ST: How are you celebrating this year’s International Women’s Day?
Aditi: So, this is really interesting. This year we have shortlisted 10 women in India who are from different parts and fields. And we would be acknowledging them on our platform.
This women’s day we will officially announce that Flawless Coat Boutique will be an all women company. Now and always.
ST: What is the most important message you want to send out to all the women around the world on this occasion?
Aditi: Don’t give up. When a woman can a grow a whole human inside, he and endure the pain of labour and raise that child then I am sure god has made her quite capable to achieve success in life. Women are a perfect blend of strength and softness. So, don’t hesitate to achieve what you want, maybe, it might sound a little impossible right now, but believe me, you can achieve whatever you want.
ST: What according to you is ‘women empowerment’?
Aditi: When You, Me or Anyone has not used the word “women empowerment” for a very long time, that what is women empowerment for me. A time when we don’t even have to discuss this word because it’s as natural as day and night.
ST: What would you say are the main challenges facing women at present globally?
Aditi: Oh, there are many. But I wouldn’t say that it’s all tough out there.
There are still so many societies in the world where there is still so much backwardness still persisting. Women are not victims of just lack of opportunities, but rather superstitions too. Now, I might not be talking about women of modern world, but I feel that until all women have come to at least one basic pedestal, we can’t think of women empowerment.
