New Delhi, India, December 2, 2020: Legal-tech startup Lawyered organised a very webinar keeping in mind the contemporary situation on November 26 to mark the occasion of Constitution Day of India. The topic of the webinar was ‘India 2021 and Beyond: Citizen Rights and Duties for Growth in Business and Life’. Eminent personalities like Mr. (Retd.) Justice AK Ganguly – Former Judge, Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, Mr. Mahavir Pratap Sharma – Chairman, TiE Global, Ms. Megha Rahul Singh – GC, Elasticrun, Mr. Sanjiv Dagar – Managing Counsel -Legajoist, and Mr. Himanshu Gupta – CEO of Lawyered took part in the webinar.

Mr. (Retd.) Justice AK Ganguly – Former Judge, Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, in his keynote address, explained the importance of the constitution and the struggles the constitution-makers eventually faced. He also opined: “We the People’ are the actual constitution-makers and our fundamental duties cannot be legally enforceable. There can be no Government measure for the decline of public health. Whenever the measures are put forward, the cooperation of the people is mandatory. These are basic requirements that are to be followed. Duties that are enjoyed under the Constitution but cannot be enforced hence they are expected to be followed. Proper atmosphere and advertisement can help the duties to be followed.”

Mr. Mahavir Pratap Sharma, the Chairman of TiE Global, expressed his views and highlighted the need for an amendment in the Constitution, in order to uphold the business sector. He focused on incentivizing entrepreneurs and skilled laborer’s which can be instrumental in adding new jobs and opportunities in the post-Covid era. He also opined that tax incentives or waivers must be given on any incremental business or turnovers. According to him, technology is disruptive and will change everything in the next three decades.

Mr. Sanjiv Dagar, the Managing Council of Legajoist said Protection & Growth are the two factors to be kept in the mind. Protection is in the hands of individuals and Growth in the hands of the Government. Human lives and human rights come first and then enter the economic interest of the County. Constitution provides rights to individuals in the first hand and Court’s priority is to balance the two.

Speaking on how do business impact human rights, Ms. Megha Rahul Singh, General counsel, Elasticrun said the local and small businesses were massively impacted due to lockdown. It definitely impacted human rights, especially of the labour class. The lockdown due to the pandemic surely affected the market and the economic situation at the current time, but there may be slight chances to revive back. People shall be provided with benefits with the one who lost their job.

Ms. Joyoshree Arora an Indian film, stage, and television actor represented the media and highlighted that the health of India matters the most. 

The panelists of the webinar discussed about the challenges which we are facing now due to COVID-19 situation. The pandemic has completely changed how we live, and how we work. At the end, the Vote of Thanks was extended by Ms. Mona Singh, Co-Founder of India Accelerated.
