After a long-stint in the corporate sector, New Delhi based Soumen Haldar was attracted towards event industry. He found this industry quite happening and creative while working in his last organization where he handled events also. In mid of 2015 he established his venture ‘DSS EVENTS & PROMOTION‘ with his own funds. In the last five years, his event management startup has grown-up and expanded to other cities in India.
Soumen’s startup has added many prestigious brands into its clients’ portfolio in a very short span of time. At present DSS EVENTS & PROMOTION is offering various services like corporate events, social events, exhibitions, wedding planning, celebrity & artist management, BTL & Activations, ATL, production, live-streaming, and commercial photography among others.
In an exclusive interview with Startup Terminal; Soumen Haldar, Founder & CEO of DSS EVENTS & PROMOTION shares more insights about his venture and future roadmap.

ST: When did you

Soumen Haldar: DSS EVENTS & PROMOTION was born in May 2015. Prior to
venturing into Event Management, I had worked for various media houses of repute for sixteen & half years. My profile being in Material
Management (MM), which I was enjoying until I was given the responsibility of
Pan India event coordination with the event team of my last organization along
with MM. Here my interest in event management grew as I found it quite creative while working on various aspects like planning, setup, and finally execution. Moreover, I felt my profile of MM
as monotonous & boring. So finally I resigned from my job and started a
new innings with starting my own venture ‘DSS EVENTS & PROMOTION’.

Soumen Haldar: As mentioned earlier that creativity drew me into Event
Management. Moreover, when I was coordinating for events for my past organization,
I found that many players in this particular industry had very little insight
about the basic moto of their client(s) for a particular event and thus we
sometimes we had to put in extra man-hours for an event. This again prompted me
to be a full-time event manager and rest is history.

ST: How has been
the journey of DSSEP so far?

Soumen Haldar: The journey has no doubt is very challenging and every
challenge has been motivating me to spring up with a solution to client’s interest.
When DSS EVENTS & PROMOTION took off, it was one-man
army (me alone) and the best part was to start from point zero as we were
honesty cashless. Here I found the difference of being on the other side of the
table. However, in these 5 years we have been serving few corporates and by the
grace of God we keep getting repeat orders, that being our biggest strength.
Today we boast of a very small team of in production and coordination
department who are highly energetic and creative. Also, we are now well
equipped with our own production and fabrication facilities in Delhi NCR,
Meerut and Muzaffarnagar. We have also added a Farm House (GSK Farm) in our
kitty which is in the radius of around 10 Km of Muzaffarnagar and spread across
10 Acre of land. The best thing about our journey as on date is today, we are
in a position to work Pan India without any hick-up.

future plans?

Soumen Haldar: In the near future, I intend to take DSS EVENTS &
PROMOTION to greater heights. It is my vision to multiply the revenue of the
company further in the next 3-4 years and diversify further. We are already in
discussion with some players of our industry where in we can club in and
utilize each other’s expertise and grow further.

ST: How do you see
the future of events and conferences business post COVID-19 pandemic?

Soumen Haldar: Very interesting question, what in Post COVID scenario? Not
only that we or our industry is hit but even e-commerce and retail business
will take good hits. Events being a part of service industry will take high toll. As
it is, we are workless for the last 3 months. To be honest I hardly see any positive
movement in the Event Industry because of 2 reasons.

Fear
in our mind to be part of any gathering. Travelling will also be less as people
will prefer online meetings.

capping of maximum of 50 people gathering will make things difficult for
clients as it would become very expensive.

So, for conferences, marriages, sports, activations, etc. I feel nothing
will be happening now. Its time to lie low and not to think about profits &
losses and just stay afloat. I don’t see anything happening this calendar year.
Some activity might happen early next calendar year. But for our industry to
pick up it will be next financial year.
