To kick off our celebration, we’ve asked Melbourne-based Imogen Micklewright-Hill, Digital Marketer & Founder of The Likes Of You Agency, few questions on her experience achieving success in the field of entrepreneurship, and what advice she has for women entering the workforce today.
Excerpts:
ST: Please tell us briefly about you.
Imogen: I am a Melbourne-based digital agency Founder focusing on all things new media. I launched my first business at the age of 26 after 5 years in the corporate world and have not looked back since. My drive comes from knowing that I now have the freedom to take on projects that excite me and work with people who inspire me — whereas before I was working for someone else’s dream.
I have been lucky enough to work with companies such as Live Nation/Festival X and recently alongside Grainshaker Vodka after them signining a 3-year sponsorship with the Australian Open.
ST: Who is a woman that inspires you the most and why?
Imogen: Melanie Perkins the CEO and co-creator of Canva. Her persistence and story from a small start-up all the way through to Canva becoming the 1 billion dollar unicorn that it is today is awe-inspiring. She is humble, driven and not afraid to challenge the status-quo.
ST: How are you celebrating this year’s International Women’s Day?
Imogen: This International Women’s Day I will be listening. Listening to stories about powerful women who have done amazing things for their communities through to businesses and families.
ST: What is the most important message you want to send out to all the women around the world on this occasion?
Imogen: There is no right path but no matter where your journey takes you, take it (lessons) for everything you can.
ST: What according to you is ‘women empowerment’?
Imogen: Is being a part of an even playing field and inspiring others.
ST: What would you say are the main challenges facing women at present globally?
Imogen: I would say countries where women are not given the same educational and occupational opportunities, or denied healthcare and safety simply because of the way they were born. I am grateful for my home country Australia however I know that we are still progressing as a nation and will need to keep doing so for a long time yet.
